Gone Gone Gone

GONE, GONE, GONE

OR:

“The Go to Sleep Little Baby Song + Drums and Fiddle and Stuff.”

This piece like allot of Tuatha Dea songs was borne organically and was the result of a marriage of unplanned and unlikely elements.

FIRST: Former fiddle player, Laura Smith presented a traditional Fiddle tune during a rehearsal in 2019 which the band loved and opted to work with…. just not traditionally.

SECOND: Tuatha Dea, being somewhat known for percussive bits turned it over to drummer, Brett Maney to initiate the twist on tradition so he added a thumping, potent rhythm that fit remarkably well with the piece and the band decided to rock it up as an instrumental.

THIRD: Rebecca and Katherine’s natural sibling harmonies have over the years lent themselves to revisiting a grand number of traditional folk and historically based tunes. The song referred to as “Didn’t Leave Nobody but the Baby” is no exception and the girls for some years used this amazing piece as a warmup and vocal harmony reference during sound checks.

LAST: After having played the piece several times strictly as an instrumental AND while taking a break in a parking lot somewhere on the way to New York, it struck Danny that the music and the folk lullaby (at least in his head) belonged together. The group tested the theory on the spot in the parking lot and discovered if you repeat the words Gone, Gone, Gone and slightly alter the traditional chorus it worked just grand …  … Yep, that really happened. The result a little tune called, “Gone, Gone, Gone”!
